What is TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder massage?
If over-tightened or clenched, the masseter, the muscle responsible for clenching your jaw, chewing and grinding your teeth, can cause many complications, such as vertigo, tinnitus, headaches, earaches and toothaches. TMJ disorder can be treated with extra-oral and intra-oral massage.
Your massage will start with extra-oral massage to the head, neck, outer jaw and pectoral areas to release tension and pressure on the jaw, since the muscles in the jaw are connected to the neck and down to the pectoral area. Once the areas of tension are released, the intra-oral massage is done, with gloves on, and the muscles are worked through the inside of the mouth to release trigger points and muscle tension. These techniques have been shown to provide great benefits for those with TMJ disfunction.
