What are the benefits of sports massage?
Geared toward any athlete at all levels, this type of massage focuses on stressed and overused muscles from repetitive and aggressive movements. Sports massage generally targets junctions between the muscles and joints. It can be used as a means to enhance pre-event preparation, reduce recovery time and for maximum performance during training or after an event.
- During training, a restorative massage allows the athlete to train harder with less risk of injury
- Before an event, a 15-45 minute massage is given to stimulate body parts involved for the sport (i.e. quadriceps and/or hamstrings for runners)
- After an event, a massage is given to normalize body tissues and help with recovery
- Post-injury and/or surgery, a rehabilitative sports massage alleviates pain and helps return the body to a healthy condition
Sports massage promotes improved muscle function, flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares your body and mind for optimal performance. Needless to say, it is a positive addition to any training regimen!
